Wildcats take down Quakers at Palestra

Philadelphia PA: When you think of College Basketball in Philadelphia, you think of the Big 5 (Temple, Penn, LaSalle, Villanova & Saint Joseph’s), that is what we had on Tuesday night as the Villanova Wildcats took on the Penn Quakers in a Big 5 Battle from the Cathedral of College Basketball, The Palestra on the campus of University of Pennsylvania. Villanova enters the game with a 6-0 record and off a win over College of Charleston on November 23, while Penn enters encounter with Wildcats with 2-2 record and off a loss to Navy on November 26. Josh Hart did not start the game due to being late to a weightlifting session. Donte DiVincenzo gets his first college start & Phil Booth did not play as he was out for the 4th straight game with left knee inflammation.
Penn won the tip to start the game and Villanova would open the scoring with 3 pointer by Kris Jenkins for early 3-0 lead, Jackson Donahue would get Penn on the board with 3 pointer to tie the game at 3. Penn would try to keep this game close as they got the Wildcats lead down to 5 at 18-13 with 13:35 left, from there the Wildcats would take full control of this game making things hard for Penn. As the 1st half came to end, Villanova Forward Kris Jenkins would hit 2 foul shots that would give him 1,000 career points. The Wildcats took a 44-25 lead into Halftime.
Villanova got ball to start the 2nd half and they would continue to put the pressure on the Quakers, The Quakers would make things very difficult for the Wildcats to go the rest of the game in cruise control, The lead would be as high as 28 points. A crowd of 7,787 saw the Wildcats take down the Quakers 82-57 to keep their dominance of the Big 5. With the win the Wildcats go to 7-0 on the season and now have to get ready for another Big 5 game against Saint Joseph’s in the “Holy War” on Saturday, while Penn falls to 2-3 on the season and also look to another hard Big 5 game on Saturday against Temple.
