Wildcats Take down Quakers in Big 5 Women’s Battle

Philadelphia PA: Big 5 Women’s basketball took center stage at the Cathedral of College Basketball, the Palestra on the campus of University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday night as the Villanova Wildcats took on the Penn Quakers. Villanova entered the game with (8-9, 2-1 in Big 5) and off a win over St john’s on January 15 while Penn comes into Big 5 battle with (9-4, 0-2 in Big 5) and off a win over Brown on January 14. The Women’s Basketball games are 4 10 minute quarters compared to the Men who play 2 20 minute periods.
Villanova won the tip to start the game and they would score the games first 6 points on 3 pointers by Megan Quinn & Alex Louin, Penn would get on the board with 3 pointer by Anna Ross. Both teams would make good plays & solid defense, Penn would take their 1st lead of game on 3 pointer by Kasey Chambers for 15-14 lead at the end of 1st. Penn would increase the lead in the 2nd quarter and got it as high as 4 points at 21-17 with 3:15 left, Villanova would go on run and they would cut into the lead as both teams would be tied at 23 at halftime.
Penn got ball to start the 2nd half and they would take it to the Wildcats early as they would take a 4 point lead at 31-27 with 7:30 left in the 3rd quarter, the Wildcats would answer the Penn attack lead by Ardianna Hahn as the they would take a 41-37 lead at the end of 3rd. In the 4th quarter the Wildcats would just take over as they got the lead up to 15 at 53-38 with 4:36 left. Anna Ross 3 pointer cut the Villanova lead down to 9 at 53-44 but the Quakers just ran out of time as the Wildcats would take this battle from the Quakers by the score of 60-48. The Wildcats go to (9-9, 3-1 in Big 5) with this win and now head back into Big East Play on January 20 at Butler, with the loss, Penn goes to (9-5, 0-3 in Big 5) and look to rebound against another Big 5 rival in Temple on January 25 at the Palestra.
