Wildcats Defeat Mount St Mary’s in NCAA Round 1 in Buffalo

Buffalo NY: The most exciting time for College Basketball is the NCAA Tournament and that is what we had on Thursday night as the Villanova Wildcats took on Mount St Mary’s Mountaineers in Round 1 of NCAA Tournament from KeyBank Center in Buffalo NY. Villanova enters the game with (31-3) record and Number 1 overall seed in the East and off a win over Creighton in the Big East Championship on March 11 while Mount St Mary’s comes into battle against the Wildcats with (20-15) record and as number 16th seed and off a win over New Orleans in the First Four on March 14.
Villanova wins tip to start the game and the games first points came from Mount St Mary’s Miles Wilson for the early 2-0 lead, they would lead 7-0 before Villanova got on the board with basket from Donte DiVincenzo. The Mountaineers would keep bringing the fight to the Wildcats as they would get the lead to 5 at 16-11 with 8:53 left. The Wildcats would rally back and Kris Jenkins would get fouled from 3pt range and would hit 3 foul shots which ties the game at 18 with 5:44 left. Both teams would trade baskets, Eric Paschall with dunk that would give the Wildcats their 1st lead of game at 26-25 with 1:23 left. Jalen Brunson with layup as times expired that gave Villanova a 30-29 lead into halftime.
Mount St Marys gets ball to start the 2nd half, Villanova goes on 13-0 Run to start the 2nd half as they would take a 43-31 lead into the 1st media timeout. Mount St mary’s would try to get back into this game but the Wildcats would be to much as Villanova would take down Mount St Mary’s 76-56. With the win, the Wildcats move on to the 2nd round against the winner of Wisconsin vs Virginia Tech on Saturday while Mount St Mary’s season ends with 20-16 record.
