Wayne Simmonds out for season with lower body injury (Puck Daddy)

Maybe Flyers general manager Ron Hextall will finally give up his quest to make the playoffs – even though the Flyers are not officially eliminated.  In a 4-1 #rivalrynight win over the Blackhawks, Philadelphia suffered what would be a crippling blow to a team with playoff aspirations, losing Wayne Simmonds for the rest of the season per the Flyers. Simmonds blocked a shot in his lower body region late in the game. Defenseman Andrew MacDonald was also hurt, in the upper body area, and is also out for the remainder of the year according to the team. Simmonds finishes with 28 goals in 75 games. This leads the Flyers. MacDonald had 12 points in 58 games played. The Flyers are nine points out of a postseason spot with seven games left to play. So under Hextall’s thinking, they’re not done because they’re not officially eliminated. Oh well.  Simmonds was one of Philly’s bright spots at forward along with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. But again, secondary scoring doomed the Flyers this year …  – – – – – – – Josh Cooper is an editor for Puck Daddy on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip?
