Villanova Women’s defeats Penn for Big 5 Title

Villanova PA: Philadelphia Big 5 women’s basketball took center stage on Tuesday night from the Pavilion on the campus of Villanova University as Villanova Wildcats hosted the Penn Quakers for the big 5 championship. Villanova came into game with a 12-7 & 2-1 in Big 5) and coming off a loss to Georgetown on January 24 while Penn enters game with record of (12-2 & 2-1 in Big 5) and off a win over Temple on January 21.
Penn won the tip to start the game and the games first points came from Sydney Stipanovich for the early 2-0 lead, Villanova got on the board with 3 pointer by Caroline Coyer. The first quarter had a lot of action as both teams were making their shots, as Caroline Coyer would 4-5 from 3pt range with 12 points while Sydney Stipanovich lead Penn with 12 points as well, Penn would take a 24-20 lead at end of 1st quarter. Penn would increase their lead to 6 at 26-20 early in the 2nd quarter as Villanova would go on a run and would retake the lead on layup by Alex Louin for the 30-29 lead with 6:22 left in the quarter. The Wildcats would take a 40-31 lead at halftime. Caroline Coyer lead the Wildcats with 15 points going 5-6 from 3pt range in 1st half while Sydney Stipanovich lead Penn in the 1st half with 14 points.
Penn got ball to start the 3rd quarter and would open the scoring when Penn Michelle Nwokedi made 1/2 from line and Villanova would get on the board with 3 pointer by Alex Louin, The Wildcats would take full control of the game as they would put up 20 points in the 3rd quarter and shut down the Quakers, Caroline Coyer, Alex Louin & Adrianna Hahn would make their 3 pointers as Villanova went on a 20-0 run and Penn Anna Ross with 3 pointer at the Buzzer to end 3rd quarter with Wildcats leading 60-37. There was not much scoring in the 4th quarter as Villanova would cruise to a 66-46 win and get a share of the Big 5 championship. The story of this game was the 3 point shooting for Villanova as they would make 17 three pointers on 41 shot attempts.
