Villanova Women’s Basketball Take down Seton Hall

Villanova PA: As conference plays picks up and most of the games become must wins in order to get a good spot in the conference tournament, that is what took play on Friday night as women’s basketball took center stage at the Pavilion on the Campus of Villanova University as Villanova Wildcats hosted Seton Hall Pirates. Villanova Enter game with (10-6 & 4-2 in Big East) and off a win over DePaul on January 10 while Seton Hall comes into matchup with (13-3 & 3-2 in Big East) and off a loss to St John’s on January 9. New things this season for women’s basketball is that the games are now four 10 Minute quarters instead of two 20 minute periods.
Seton Hall won the tip to start the game and the games first points came from Villanova Samantha Wilkes making two foul shots for the early 2-0 lead, The Pirates would get on the board with a three pointer by T Richardson-Smith for a 3-2 lead. Seton would grow a 7 point lead at the end of 1st quarter by leading 14-7. The Wildcats would wake up and cut into the lead and they would take a 19-18 lead on three pointer by Megan Quinn with 1:59 left in the 2nd quarter. The Wildcats would take a 22-18 lead into halftime.
Seton Hall got ball to start the 2nd half, both teams would come out trading punches as Villanova looked to increase the lead while Seton Hall was trying to retake the lead. Halfway through the 3rd quarter, the game game would be delayed as one of the clocks on the basket had a malfunction and the took a while to get it working. Pirates would take the lead on foul shots by T Richardson-Smith for a 31-30 lead with 3:11 left in 3rd quarter. The game would be tied at 33 at the end of 3rd quarter. Seton Hall would retake the lead on basket by Shakena Richardson to make it 38-36 with 6:12 left. The Wildcats would respond by hitting some big shots down th estretch lead by Alex Louin hitting 3 pointer, basket & foul for 3 point play, and Katherine & Caroline Coyer would each hit some foul shots to Ice the game as Villanova would win this game 55-45, with the win, Wildcats got to 11-6 & 5-2 in Big East and with the loss, the Pirates fall to 13-4 & 3-3 in Big East.
