Villanova Wins Nailbitter vs St John’s 57-54

Philadelphia PA: On Saturday February 22 from Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, An old school Big East matchup took center stage as the number 9 ranked  Villanova Wildcats took on the St John’s Red Storm.Villanova comes into game with a record of 23-3 (11-2 in Big East) & off a huge double overtime win over Providence on February 18 while st johns comes with record of 18-9 (8-6 in Big East) and win over Butler also on February 18.  This game also marked the homecoming of St John’s freshman Rysheed Jordan who was from the Philadelphia area, went to High school at Roberts Vaux Junior High School. The Game was broadcasted on FOX sports 1 with  Gus Johnson & Bill Raftery are Calling the action & locally on TalkRadio 1210 WPHT with Ryan Fannon & Whitey Rigsby.

Villanova won the opening tip to start the game & scored the games first points from a 3 pointer from Darrun Hilliard. Villanova would jump out to an early 8-0 lead before St john’s finally gets on the board from a 3 pointe by Phil Greene IV. both teams would a lot of great changes to make this a very exciting game but could not make it happen. This game has the field of the old school big east in the fact of low scoring great defense. Saint John’s would take its 1st lead of the game with 5:27 left in 1st half from a jump shot by Rysheed Jordan for a 21-20 lead. Villanova would retake the lead. Villanova would take a 28-27 lead into halftime. Phil Greene IV lead St john’s with 8 points in 1st half while Darrun Hilliard had 11 points for Villanova in 1st half

Villanova starts 2nd half with the ball and, St John’s would retake the lead for the 2nd time in the game by  Rysheed Jordan for a 30-28 lead very early in the 2nd half. Villanova would get the lead back, the 2nd was  a lot of great defense and some missed chances, late in the 2nd half, Villanova guard Ryan Arcidiacono would bank in a big 3 pointer with 3:44 left in the 2nd half, ST John’s would make this game very tight the rest of the way. Villanova would hold on for a 57-54 win. Both teams each received a Technical foul in the game, St john’s one came in the 1st half as Sir Dominic Pointer for Hanging on the rim after missing a dunk in the 1st half, Villanova came in the 1st half  on the bench
