Villanova takes apart East Tennessee State in NIT Season Tip off

Villanova PA: Once the College Basketball season begins, some teams get to take part in the early season tournaments and that is what took place at the Pavilion on the campus of Villanova University on Friday night as the number 11 ranked Villanova Wildcats hosted East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the NIT Season Tip off. Villanova enters game with a 2-0 record and off a win over Nebraska on November 17 while East Tennessee State comes into game against Villanova with a 3-0 record and off a win over Green Bay also on November 17. The game was broadcasted nationally on Fox Sports 2 with Scott Graham and Tarik Turner calling the action.

East Tennessee State won the tip to start the game and they would score the games first points on a basket & foul by Peter Jurkin for the early 3-0 lead. Villanova would get on the board with basket by Daniel Ochefu. At one point, East Tennessee State would have a 5 point lead on Villanova at 9-4 with 16:35 left in the first half. the Wildcats would wake up and they would come back to tie the game at 11lead by Josh Hart and Daniel Ochefu. Villanova would take its first lead of the game on a Mikal Bridges layup for a 11-9 lead, then the Buccaneers would tie the game at 11 heading into first media timeout at 15:04 of 1st half. The game would turn so quickly in favor of Villanova where they would 13 straight point to lead 24-11, East Tennessee State would go a on 9 minute scoring drought before they would score again until 6:38 left in the first half, The Wildcats would go on a 30-6 run since the game was tied at 11. Villanova would take a 22 point into into halftime as they would lead 49-27. Daniel Ochefu and Josh Hart would lead Villanova in the first half with 10 points while TJ Cromer would lead East Tennessee State with 8 points in the first half.

Villanova got the ball to start the 2nd half and they would continue where they left off in the first half. The Wildcats opened the second half with a Kris Jenkins 3 pointer to make it 52-27, The Buccanners of East Tennessee State would get on the board in the 2nd half on basket by Ge’Lawn Guyn. The Wildcats would grown the lead to 47 points with 6:35 left in the game and they would cruise the rest of the way as they would win by 35 points by the score of 86-51, Villanova would go to 3-0 on the season while East Tennessee State falls to 3-1 on the season.
