Villanova lays Smackdown to undefeated Xavier on NYE

Villanova PA: As 2015 comes to close, that means the start of conference play in college basketball begins and that is what took place on Thursday afternoon at the Pavilion on the campus of Villanova University as the Big East opened conference play as 16th ranked Villanova Wildcats hosted 6th ranked undefeated Xavier Musketeers. Villanova comes into game with 10-2 record and off a dominant win over Big 5 Rival Penn on December 28 while Xavier enter match up with a 12-0 undefeated record and off a win over Wake Forest on December 22. The game was broadcasted nationally on FOX Sports 1 with Gus Johnson & Bill Raftery calling the action. Before the game Villanova would announce that Jalen Brunson has a stomach virus and will not start the game and would come off the bench.

Villanova won the tip to start the game and they would score right away on basket buy Daniel Ochefu, Xavier would get on the board with basket from 3 pointer from Edmond Sumner for the 3-2 lead. A very scary moment happened in this game as Xavier Player Edmond Sumner went down hard from a foul and he would not move for several minutes and then the EMT come in and would carry him off on a stretcher and head to the hospital. Villanova would go on a 27-5 run and they were in full control of the game, Ryan Arcidiacono would have it going from 3pt range as he would have make 5-8 from 3 in the first half and some of them were from deep NBA range. Xavier would not responded from that and they would try to get back into the game but Villanova had everything going for them in the first half as they would take a 48-30 lead into halftime

Xavier would get ball to start the 2nd half, Villanova Josh Hart who was in foul trouble early would come alive in the 2nd half as he would score 13 straight points to open the 2nd half as Villanova would take a 61-35 lead at 15:55 of the 2nd half, with 9:24 left, Villanova would grow the lead to 32 points ta 80-48 and Villanova would cruise to a 95-64 win to open conference play and take down number 6 undefeated Xavier. After the game Xavier coach Chris Mack would update everyone on Edmond Sumner and that he was feeling better, later he would say that Edmond Sumner been released from hospital and his going home with the team.
