Villanova Knocks out Georgetown to end Regular Season

Philadelphia PA: When the calendar turns to March means the best time for college basketball fans in March Madness as we got a preview of it on Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia as the #3 ranked Villanova Wildcats hosted Georgetown Hoyas. Villanova entered the game with record of (26-4, 15-2 in Big East) and off a win over DePaul on March 1 while Georgetown comes into game against the Wildcats with record of (14-16, 7-10 in Big East) and off a loss to Marquette also on March 1.
Georgetown won the tip to start the game and scored the games first points from Marcus Derrickson, Villanova would get on the board from basket by Jalen Brunson. the Wildcats would open up a 27-6 lead with 11:04 left in the half. The Hoyas had no answer for the Wildcats as the lead would grow up to 20 points at 34-14 with 4 minutes left. Villanova Kris Jenkins would hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Wildcats an 46-27 lead into halftime, in full control of this game from the opening tip.
Villanova got ball to start the 2nd half and they would increase their lead upt o 24 at 55-31 with 16:15 left, then Georgetown would go on a 18-5 run to cut the Villanova lead down to 11 at 58-47 with 8:48 left. During one of the media timeouts, a Villanova Student would hit a half court shot and won a $1,000 Apple gift card. Both teams would get some stops and trade baskets but Georgetown did not have any answers to get the lead down to single digits as Villanova would defeat Georgetown 84-71 as the 2016 Big East Regular Season champions. With the win, the Wildcats record is (27-4, 16-2 in Big East) and now head into the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden on Thursday at Noon on Fox Sports 1, the Hoyas with the loss fall to (14-17, 7-11 in Big East) and play DePaul in the Big East Tournament on Wednesday at 7PM.
