Villanova Defeats Quinnipiac in WNIT 1st RD

Villanova PA: On Wednesday March 19 from the Pavilion on the campus of Villanova University, postseason basketball took center stage as Villanova Wildcats hosted Quinnipiac Bobcats in the first round of Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Villanova comes into game with record of 22-8 & off a Loss to Marquette in the Big East Tournament ,while Quinnipiac comes in with record of 21-12 & coming off a loss to Marist in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Villanova won the tip to start the game and both teams struggled in the first few minutes of the game. Quinnipiac scored the games first points from a 3 pointer from Gillian Abshire, Villanova got on the board from a layup from Devon Kane. Villanova struggled early on but they were able to keep the game close, then Lauren Burford hits 3 pointer to tie game at 24 with 3:46 left in 1st half. Quinnipiac would miss some big shots late to end the half as Villanova would take a 30-27 lead into halftime. Devon Kane lead Villanova with 11 points in the 1st half while Brittany Mcquain would score 10 for Quinnipiac in the 1st half.
Quinnipiac got ball to start the 2nd half and got layup from Brittany McQuain to cut the lead to 1 early in the 2nd half and they would get the lead up to 42-36, Villanova would go on a run to tie game at 42 from Megan Quinn jump shot. With under 14 minutes left in the game, Villanova Devon Kane scores layup for her 1,000 career point becoming the 24th player in Villanova History to score 1,000 points. Quinnipiac would try to keep the game close but they could not has Villanova would go on to win 74-66 to advance to the 2nd round of the Women’s NIT where they will host George Washington on March 23 at 1PM.

Lauren Burford: 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4-7 from 3pt range, 2-3 from foul line
