View from Villanova Football Broadcast Booth by Joe Eichhorn about Villanova Holding Stony Brooke to 6 points:
“After starting the season 0 and 2, The Villanova Wildcats opened CAA play hosting the Stony Brook Seawolves, the team that knocked them out of last year’s playoffs.
In that game Stony Brook drove 92 yards, on a 23 play drive, mostly on the ground, on their first possesion, and set the tone for the game. Not so this year. Head Coach Andy Talley and DC Billy Crocker made sure that wouldn’t happen. The Wildcats normally play a 3 man defensive front, they changed it up on many occasions to a 4 man front using Pat Williams and Jordan Hunter, both over 300 lbs, joining All-Conference players Antoine Lewis and Rakim Cox, to hold the Seawolves to under 100 yards rushing. This move and QB John Robertson returning to form, along with 2 gadget plays, which resulted in TD’s the Wildcats won the home and conference opener handily.
Next up a “Big Five” game as the Penn Quakers visit the 19th ranked Wildcats on Saturday, game time 5 PM.
