- Updated: October 23, 2016
Chester PA: It all comes down to the final day of the season for those teams to make their push for the playoffs as the Philadelphia Union were looking to make the playoffs for the 2nd time in franchise history as they took on their I-95 Rivals the New York Red Bulls on Sunday Afternoon from Talen Energy Stadium in Chester PA. The Union enter this game off a loss to Orlando City SC on October 16 while the Red Bulls come into game against the Union off a win over Columbus also on October 16.
New York start the game with the ball and both teams would have some good scoring chances in this game. New York would open the scoring in the 26th minute as Bradley Wright-Phillips chipped the ball over the Union goalkeeper Andre Blake and scored into the empty net for 1-0 lead. The Union had some golden chances to get this game even in the 1st half but nothing would happen as the Red Bulls took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Union got ball to start the 2nd half and they would come out buzzing in trying to get the score tied but the goalie for the Red Bulls was up to the test. The Red Bulls would extend the lead in the 57th minute as the Red Bulls would make some nice passing and Alex Muyl would put it in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The Red Bulls hold on for 2-0 win. A crowd of 18,500 on Fan Appreciation Day saw the Union struggle to get the ball into the goal and this looks bad heading into the playoffs and also on a seven-game winless streak..
The Union now head into the Playoffs a Knockout Round matchup against the third-seeded Toronto FC on Wednesday at 7:30 PM on ESPN2 in Toronto.
