UCF Beats Temple in Double OT in AAC 1st RD

Memphis TN, On Wednesday March 12 from the FedExForum in Memphis Tennessee, college basketball conference tournament took center stage as the Temple Owls took on the Central Florida Knights in the 1st Round of the inaugural American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championships presented by Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  Temple came into game with a record of 9-21 (4-14) and off a buzzer beater win over South Florida on March 8, Central Florida comes in with a record of 12-17 (4-14) and off a win over Houston on March 7. Temple Slit the regular season with Central Florida by Losing to them on Jan 4 at UCF and Beating then at Temple on March 4.  The game was broadcasted nationally on ESPN2 with Dave O’Brien, Doris Burke calling the action & locally on TalkRadio 1210 WPHT with Harry Donahue & John Baum calling the action.

UCF won the opening tip to start the game, the games first points came from Temple Anthony Lee for 2 point layup, Central Florida gets on the board from a 2 point jump shot from Isaiah Sykes to tie the game at 2. Central Florida would take control halfway of the 1st half until Temple would come back to take the lead, the UCF retakes the lead. Temple would retake the lead from a 3 pointer from Quenton DeCosey to make 31-29 with 5:21 left in 1st half. Isaiah Sykes would hit a half court buzzer beater to cut the Temple lead to 1 as temple lead 40-39 at halftime. Isaiah Sykes lead UCF with 14 points in 1st half while Will  Cummings & Quenton DeCosey  lead Temple with 11 Points in 1st half.

UCF starts 2nd half with the ball and came out with more jump thanks to the buzzer beater that ended the 1st half, Temple would finally get back into the game as Dalton Pepper hits a 3 pointer to give Temple the lead at 11:15 left in 2nd half. both teams would exchange baskets the rest of the game and had multiple chances to take control of the game but it did not happen as Isaiah Sykes shot at the Buzzer did not count as we head to Overtime. UFC would lead the entire overtime period until Temple Will Cummings would steal a UCF pass and coast in for the game tying layup with 8 seconds left to tie the game at 82 and it resulted the game to got into Double Overtime. Temple would score 1st in overtime for its 1st lead since 2:10 left in the 2nd half, UCF would take over in the 2nd overtime like they did in the 1st overtime but Temple would not go away as Quenton DeCosey hits a 3 pointer late in over time to make a 1 point game at 91-90. it would not be enough as Central Florida holds on for a 94-90 Double Overtime win and now they will play the top seed in the Tournament in Cincinnati the next day. Temple put up an amazing effort in an losing battle. Temple finishes the season (9-22, 4-14 AAC). In his final game for Temple senior Dalton Pepper finished with 14 points.

Central Florida Knights:
