Towson Defeats Villanova on Homecoming Day

It was Homecoming this past weekend at Villanova as they took on Towson. Villanova is 5-3 all time against Towson, with their most recent loss to Towson last year, 31-10. Villanova & Towson were Both Ranked in the Football Championship Subdivision; Villanova was ranked 19 and Towson was ranked #23. Villanova won the coin toss and elected to receive as the match came to a start.

Villanova’s opening drive led to a touchdown by RB Kevin Monangai for a 33 Yard Catch. Nova took the lead 7-0 with 12:15 left in the first quarter. Towson answered with a touchdown of their own by Terrance West with a 48 yard TD run.  The game was now tied at seven a piece. Towson would end up scoring again with a touchdown from WR Tom Ryan who made an 18 yard TD catch. Towson led 14-7 with 6:43 left first quarter. Villanova would tie the game up shortly before the end of the first, with a touchdown by RB Kevin Monangai who made a six yard touchdown catch.  The first half scoring wouldn’t end there. Towson scored again when RB Terrance West caught a 78 yard pass.On the following kickoff, Nova fumbled the ball and Towson recovered it on the Villanova 23 yard line. Towson would take a 21-14 lead into the second quarter.

Towson started the second quarter in Villanova territory and they quickly scored a touchdown. TE Daniel Vaughan caught a 14 yard TD Catch,and Towson had a huge 28-14 lead. On Towson;s next drive, the ball would be intercepted by Villanova’s Joe Sarnese. They would go on to punch it in the end zone with a touchdown when QB John Robertson made a quick five yard TD run,but Towson still led 28-21 with 9:56 left in the second quarter. Villanova would quickly score again though with a touchdown by WR Joe Price who made a 16 yard catch, tying the game at 28 with 3:02 left in the second quarter. Towson unfortunately would make a half ending touchdown drive when WR Spencer Wilkins picked up 11 yards for the score. Towson took a 35-28 lead at halftime. it was a track meet with the amount of points that both Villanova and Towson put up in the first half.

After a Towson three and out to start the half, Villanova would make a scoring drive of their own when TE Earnest Pettway made a three yard TD Catch. The game was now tied at 35 with 10:57 left in the third quarter. Towson would get the points right back though when Terrance West would make a four yard TD run, giving Towson the 42-35 with a little over seven minutes to go in the third.  At that point in the match, Towson’s RB Terrance West had 3 touchdowns: two rushing and 1 receiving. Villanova’s RB Kevin Monangai had two touchdowns, both receiving. Towson would drive yet again and score another touchdown, this time from QB Grant Enders who made a thrilling 40 yard TD run. Towson was running away with it at 49-35 at the end of the third. End of 3rd Quarter,

Mid way through the fourth quarter, Villanova RB Kevin Monangai had rushed for 100 yards, making it the third straight game and 5th of the year that Monangai had rushed for 100 yards. Monangai becomes the first Villanova player since Brian Westbrook in 2001 to have three consecutive 100-yard games. Late in the fourth quarter, Villanova WR Norman White had a nasty fall after taking a big hit, but walked off the field under his own power.  The game would go final, with Towson defeating Villanova 49-35. There were 7,757 in attendance for Villanova’s homecoming game.
