Temple Football Defeats Penn State 27-10

Philadelphia PA: As everyone begins their Labor Day holiday, that means the return of college football and a big matchup took place at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia on Saturday  as the Temple Owls took on Penn State Nittany Lions. Penn State comes into the season off a win over Boston College in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl while Temple enters the season going 6-6 and not being invited to a bowl game. The game was broadcasted nationally on ESPN.

Penn State won the toss & deferred to the 2nd half, Temple would start the game with the ball, Temple would go 3 and out on their opening drive of the season, Penn State would score on their opening drive of the season which would lead to a 34 yard field goal by Joey Julius for the early 3-0 lead.  Penn State would score their first touchdown of the season as Akeel Lynch runs it in from 42 yards for a 10-0 lead. Penn State would take a 10-0 lead at the end of 1st quarter.

Temple would finally get some pressure on Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg with 2 sacks by Haason Reddick.  Temple QB PJ Walker gets  Sacked & Penn State recovers it by Torrence Brown, Penn State has ball on Temple 43, Temple would stop them. Temple would get on the board for the 1st time in 2015 as they would do a 12 play 93 yard drive which saw Jahad Thomas  run it in from 1 yard out to cut the Penn State lead to 10-7 late in the 2nd quarter. Penn State would take a 10-7 lead at halftime

Penn State got ball to start the 2nd half. Temple would throw a trick play out to get into Penn State end of the field as WR John Christopher throws to QB P.J. Walker for 25 yards. Temple would tie the game at 10 on a 40 yard field goal by Austin Jones. Temple would take its first lead of the game when PJ walker would run in the touchdown to give the Owls a 17-10 lead with 1 minute left in the 3rd quarter. The story was the Temple defense as they would get so much pressure on Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg as they would sack him 10 times. The Owls would score touchdown in the 4th quarter on a 24 yard run by Jahad Thomas to make it 24-10, then would add a 30 yard field goal to make it 27-10 Temple. As the clock hit zero, the Temple Owls football team would do something for the first time since 1941 as they would defeat Penn State by the score of 27-10 in front of crowd of 69,176 the largest crowd for a Temple football home game at Lincoln Financial Field. There was 14 NFL Scouts in attendance from the following teams

The Temple owls will not get ready to open American Athletic Conference play next Saturday night at Cincinnati while Penn State goes home to host Buffalo in their home opener.
