Temple Takes Down Ohio in 3rd Round of Women’s NIT

Philadelphia PA: As the City of Philadelphia prepares to host the East regional for the Men’s Basketball tournament at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia starting Friday, there was postseason basketball that took place at McGonigle Hall on the Campus of Temple University on Thursday night as the Temple Owls Women’s Basketball hosted the 3rd round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) against the Ohio Bobcats. Temple enters the game with a (22-11, 13-5 in AAC) record and off a win over Quinnipiac on March 20 while Ohio comes into game against Temple with a record of (26-6, 16-2 in MAC) and off a over Virginia Tech also on March 20.
Ohio won the tip to start the game and the games first points came from Temple Alliya Butts making two foul shots for the early 2-0 lead, Ohio got on the board with three pointer by Yamonie Jenkins for 3-2 lead. The Owls would open up a 10 point lead at 18-8 with 3:23 left in the first quarter. Owls would take a 27-11 lead at end of 1st quarter. Ohio would go on a run in the 2nd quarter and they would cut the Owls lead down to 5 at 34-29 with 2:20 left in the 2nd quarter. Owls would grow the lead back up and take a 39-29 lead into halftime.
Ohio got ball to start the 2nd half and they would try to get back into the game but Temple had the answers to shut them down. Halfway through the 3rd quarter, Owls Alliya Butts hits 3 pointer and gets fouled and McGonigle Hall got very loud, she would make the foul shot to complete the 4pt play to make the score 49-36. Owls would end the quarter by getting the lead back up to 15 at 60-45. Ohio tried to get back into the game but the Owls were too much for them as the Temple Owls would take down the Bobcats 75-61 to advance to the to Elite 8 where they would take on Michigan on Monday March 28 at 7PM at Michigan.
