Temple take down Saint Joseph’s in Big 5 Play

Philadelphia PA: Big 5 basketball took center stage on Wednesday night as the Temple Owls took on the Saint Joseph’s Hawks from Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s University. The Saint Joseph’s Hawks enter game with a 3-2 record and off a loss to NC State in the Paradise Jam on November 21 while the Temple Owls come into encounter with the Hawks with a win over West Virginia in the Championship game of Preseason NIT on November 25. The game was broadcasted Nationally on CBS Sports Network with Carter Blackburn, Pete Gillen, Jon Rothstein calling the action.
Saint Joseph’s won the tip to start the game and they scored the game first points on basket by Nick Robinson for early 2-0 lead then the hawks would add to the lead on 3 pointer by Charlie Brown for 5-0 lead the Owls called time out and then the game changed from there. Obi Enechionyia got the Owls on the board, The Hawks would jump all over the Owls for an 11-2 lead before Temple woke up and started to make their charge. Obi Enechionyia would make layup to give the Owls their first lead of game at 19-18 with 7:48 left in 1st half. With 6:29 left, Josh Brown would make his season debut after being out most of the season with achilles injury and he would make his 1st shot when he touched the ball to make it 26-23 with 5:26 left in 1st half. The Hawks would go on run to cut into the lead as the Owls took a 34-31 lead into halftime.
Temple got ball to start the 2nd half and they would grow the lead up to 7 points at 43-36 with 17:53 left. The Hawks would retake the lead on 3 pointer by Charlie Brown at 44-43 with 15:45 left. Temple would just make things very hard for the Hawks as both teams played good defense as the lead went no higher than 3 points for the Owls at 59-56 with 7:44 left. The Hawks would get the lead down to 1 at 73-72 with 2:36 left then Owls Daniel Dingle would put in a big basket followed by 3 pointer from Obi Enechionyia which would ice the game. A Sold Out crowd watch a typical Big 5 game as the Owls would take this one in the end by the score of 78-72. With the win the Owls go to 5-2 (2-0 in Big 5) and now look to another Big 5 game on Saturday when they host Penn. With the loss the Hawks fall to (3-3, 0-1 in Big 5) and also have to bounce back as they take on defending national champion Villanova also on Saturday.
