Temple runs over Mustangs to Open Conference Play

Philadelphia PA: It’s time to get down to business as Conference play opens up in American Athletic Conference as the Temple Owls begin the defense of the East Division Title as the hosted SMU Mustangs at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday. The Owls enter the game with 2-2 record and off a win over Charlotte while SMU also enters game against Temple with a 2-2 record and off a loss to TCU.
Temple won the toss & elected to receive and on their 3rd play of the game, Walker would throw a INT that SMU takes back for Touchdown of 35 yards by Jordan Wyatt for 7-0 lead. Temple would wake up from that bad start and just take to the Mustangs, first was 12 yard touchdown run by Jahad Thomas, then a 42 yard pass to Ventell Bryant & Ryquell Armstead for 21-7 lead at the end of 1st. Temple would continue to put it on SMU as Jahad Thomas scored his 2nd touchdown of game. Then the defense would get into the scoring as Romond Deloatch would recover a fumble and run it back for touchdown, SMU would get a touchdown to try to get back into the game. Temple would take a 35-14 lead into halftime. Both teams would have turnover issues in this game, SMU with 4 turnovers while Temple has 3 of them.
SMU got ball to start the 2nd half and they would do nothing to stop the owls, Temple would kick a 30 yard field goal to make it 38-14, Temple defense played great all game long, getting pressure on the QB. SMU would score touchdown in 4th to make things interesting at 38-20 then Ryquell Armstead would ice the game with a 37 yard touchdown that would make it 45-20. A crowd of 22,401 saw Temple open up conference play with a 45-20 win over SMU and the Owls have to get ready for a quick turnaround as the Owls travel to Memphis for a Thursday night game and SMU also does the same with a game on Friday.
