Soul Sign WR Emery Sammons

The Philadelphia Soul have added wide receiver depth. The team today announced that they would be signing former receiver Emery Sammons to a contract that will last him throughout the rest of the year. Emery was with the team last year when they made a run to the Arena Bowl. This is Emery’s fourth year in the league and second with the Soul. The Soul are in need of depth at wide receiver because of two injuries to Larry Brackins, and Alvance Robinson. This signing helps fill a void and brings a veteran who has experience with Coach Dolezel’s coaching style as he was the offensive coordinator last year.

“We need to make sure we have depth at all positions on our team,” said Coach Clint Dolezel. “We’ve been hit with injuries this season, so Emery allows us to have strong depth at that position. We look forward to incorporating his talents into our game plan.” “From what I’ve seen him do lets go,” Said Derrick Ross who is second all-time in Arena Football rushing yards.

The Philadelphia Soul (6-5) will hit the road this weekend and head to Pittsburg (3-8) as they go for a win against their division rival. When the Soul first met with the Power in week 8 they were upset by the team falling 53-48. This may be surprising but Pittsburg is battling for a post season spot. So far the American Conference looks like this

#1 –Jacksonville Sharks (8-4)

#2- Philadelphia Soul (6-5 division leader)

#3- Tampa Bay Storm (7-5 1st wild card seed)

#4- Orlando Predators/ Pittsburg Power (3-8 2nd wild card seed)

Obviously a huge drop in between 3rd place and 4th place but still Pittsburg will be coming out with a motivator in trying to stay at that fourth seed and sneak into the playoffs. The Soul will have to get an early lead to slow down this Pittsburg team.

In 2012 Tight End Jason Jones played with the Pittsburg Power. He has yet to ever beat a team he played for in the past.

Defensive Back Larico Stevenson played with the team during 2011 and 2012. He came to the soul during the 2012 season after the Power released him.

Obviously some soul players will have a boost to see if they can take out there former team.
