Sixers Free Agency: Time to Call Lebron?

Its official, free agency is now open! What does that mean for the Sixers….probably nothing. However along with a great draft this year, this free agency showcases some of the best talent in the NBA with superstars like Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh all opting out of their contracts. Sam Hinkie stated in his press conference last week his applaud for the Sixers fans and their patience:

“I have been borderline shocked in the last month at how smart our fans are and the price you have to pay to go to where you want to go,” said Hinkie. “It has been remarkable to me to watch the level of intrigue and the level of patience and understanding.”

Going into this free agency what is to really expect? Are we going to seriously consider Tank 2.0 and sign former players like Evan Turner, Jody Meeks and Nick Young? Or does Sam Hinkie actually have something up his sleeve like discussed in this article?

Numerous reports state Lebron James wants to sign a max deal. That cuts the list down, as only seven teams have the money to give James the $22 million annually he seeks. Those teams are the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic and wait for it…..Your Philadelphia 76ers!

With an estimated $30 million in salary cap space, the Sixers can offer James the $22 million he seeks plus $8 million to play with in additional free agents. Only the Suns and Heat can offer James more. Although it seems unrealistic, we have to be semi-hopefully in Sam Hinkie and hope for the Miracle on Broad Street.
