Saint Joseph’s Beats Iona 96-91

On December 28 from Hagan Arena on the Campus of Saint Joseph’s University, The Saint Joseph’s Hawks took on the Iona Gaels in what some people called an early season test for the NCAA Tournamant. The Hawks were coming into this game off a bad loss at Fairfield while Iona was coming into this game off a win over Norfolk State on December 23. Iona’s last trip into Philadelphia was met with a loss to La Salle on December 20. The Game was Broadcasted on 610 WIP AM. Before the game started, The Hawks Honored Langston Galloway for scoring 1,000 career points in the American game. The Hawks started the game with the ball. The first points of the game came from Iona’s A.J. English for a three Pointer. 3-0 Iona, the Hawks first points came from Chris Wilson for two points. Three minutes later, The Hawks Carl Jones hit a two pointer to surpass the 1,500 point mark, becoming the 16th Hawks player to reach that feet. the entire first half was back and forth with great defense coming from both sides., At the half, Iona led Saint Joseph’s 47-45.
Iona started the 2nd Half with ball and it was a track meet to start. The Hawks were up 69-58 with 12:07 left. Late in the 2nd half, Iona’s Lamont Jones put up a circus shot for two points, and the Hawks were up 73-70 with 6:59 left in the 2nd Half. Though Iona kept it close, the Hawks held on for the 96-91 Win.
