Quakers take down Explorers in Big 5 Action

Philadelphia PA: City bragging rights were up for grabs whenever the Big 5 takes center stage and that is what we had on Wednesday Night as the LaSalle Explorers took on the Penn Quakers from Tom Gola Arena on the campus of LaSalle University. LaSalle enters the game with (11-6, 0-2 in Big 5) and off a ugly loss to VCU on January 22 while Penn comes into Big 5 battle with (6-9, 0-3 in Big 5) and off a loss to Saint Joseph’s on January 21.
Penn won the tip to start the game and scored right away on basket by AJ Brodeur as he scored as the shot clock would expire for the early 2-0, Quakers would take 5-0 lead before LaSalle got on the board with Amar Stukes. Explorers would take their 1st lead of game on basket by Jordan Price for 10-9 lead at 15:13 left. Penn would answer back and would just take full control of the game as they would take a 40-27 lead into halftime, LaSalle did not know what hit them.
LaSalle got ball to start the 2nd half and they went on a 5-0 run to cut into the Quakers lead, Penn would respond by growing the lead back to 11 at 62-51 with 10:13 left. The Explorers would grind their way back into the game and make things interesting the rest of the way. Explorers would get the lead down to 1 on 3 pointer by Jordan Price with 2 seconds left and they would run out of time as Penn would hold on for a 77-74 win. With the win, Quakers now go to (7-9, 1-3 in Big 5) and they return to Ivy League play against Harvard on February 3 while Explorers fall to (11-7,0-3 in Big 5) and go back to conference play against Saint Joseph’s on January 28.
