Providence takes down Villanova in Overtime

Philadelphia PA: 24 hours after the City of Philadelphia got hit with the snow storm, college basketball took center stage at Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia as the number 4 ranked Villanova Wildcats took on the 16th ranked Providence Friars. Villanova comes into game with record of (17-2 & 7-0 in Big East) and off a win over Seton Hall on January 20 while Providence enters game with record of (16-3 &* 4-2 in Big East) and off a win over Butler on January 19.

Providence won the tip to start the game and the games first points came from Ryan Arcidiacono for early 2-0 lead, Providence would get on the board on basket from Junior Lomomba. Villanova would go the lead to 11 points at 27-16 with 5:57 left in 1st half. Friars would take their first lead of game on 3 pointer by Ryan Fazekas for 35-34 lead, then Wildcats Jalen Brunson hits 3 pointer at the buzzer as Villanova would take a 37-35 lead at halftime.

Friars got ball to start the 2nd half and score right away from basket by Kyron Cartwright to get the game tied at 37, 2nd tie of the game, Josh Hart 3 pointer gives Wildcats the 40-37 lead. the entire 2nd half was a very tight, very defensive, both teams would keep the game very close. Providence would take a 5 point lead on basket by Kris Dunn for a 52-47 lead with 12:13 left in 2nd half. Friars would have a 2 point lead with 16 seconds left after 2 shots by Cartweight and Villanova would tie the game at 66 on 3 pointer by Ryan Arcidiacono with 7 seconds left and the game would head to overtime.

Villanova won the tip to start Overtime and hit 3 pointer by Kris Jenkins, Providence would take over lead by Kris Dunn and Ben Bentil as Bentil would score 10 points in overtime as Providence would pull off the upset as the take down number 4 Villanova 82-76 in front of crowd of 7,191 in attendance. This was a game the Villanova could take advantage of as they struggled from 3pt range going 9-31. This was Villanova first loss in Big East Place since their loss to Georgetown back on January 19,2015. With the Loss Villanova falls to (17-3, 7-1 in Big East) while with the win Providence goes to (17-3,5-2 in Big East)
