Despite only being few games into the new Premier League season, we’ve already seen upsets, surprises and have been given plenty to discuss. In this article, we are going to look at the teams in the Premier League who have the best chance of bagging the title at the end of the season. Want to bet on the English Premier League? It would be only fair to start with last season’s champions, Manchester United. Long serving manager Sir Alex Ferguson transformed the club, taking them from mere obscurity to the pinnacle of the domestic and European game. Alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona, they are the most followed team on the planet, as evidenced by their 34-million strong following on Facebook. Now that job has been entrusted upon fellow Scotsman David Moyes. It’s going to be a tough transition for Moyes. You discount United at your peril, they will be up there come the end of the season although, for the first time in a while, they are not one of the favorites. Along with Ferguson, Paul Scholes has decided to retire, leaving a hole in midfield which has yet to be filled. It is a widely held belief that reinforcements are needed for United to seriously challenge for the title. It may be a season too soon for the man being dubbed the ‘Chosen One’.
Jose Mourinho’s return breathe new life to the Blues.
From the ‘Chosen One’ to the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’, Jose Mourinho’s long awaited return to Chelsea from Real Madrid has given the Blues a new lease of life, making them a serious contender for the crown. A two-time winner, Mourinho knows what it takes to win this league and many think he will. The Chelsea squad is looking stronger than it did last season under Rafa Benitez. Andre Schurrle has bolstered the attacking options at the club, with the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard looking rejuvenated under the Portuguese maestro. It is reported Willian and Samuel Eto’o will soon be added to the ranks at Stamford Bridge, making Chelsea a force to be seriously reckoned with, favorites for the crown.
Manchester City completes the big trio who head into the new season with a new manager. Spaniard Manuel Pellegrini has taken the City hot seat after the controversial sacking of Roberto Mancini. An expensively assembled squad has seen Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas and Stevan Jovetic arrive in Manchester, seeking to give City added impetus in their chase to reclaim the title they lost to their neighbors last year. As is the case with United, it may just take a season for Pellegrini to settle into his first job in England. Newly promoted Cardiff City showed the former champions up in their first home game as a Premiership club, beating the oil rich club 3-2. On this showing, City certainly have work to do if they want to recapture the title.
Arsenal also deserve a mention, I expect them to round off the top four and qualify for a 17th successive season of Champions League football. Arsene Wenger has once again decided against making a marquee signing and it is thought that the decision to again be prudent will mean another season without silverware for the London club.
Will you bet on Arsene Wenger’s team this season?
Beaten 3-1 at home by Aston Villa on the opening day, another tough season looks like being on the cards for the Gunners. Tottenham Hotspur don’t look like challenging, especially with the loss of Gareth Bale, a 4th place finish and Champions League football has to be a priority for them.
My prediction? Both Manchester clubs will be battling it out for the runners up spot behind Mourinho’s newly galvanized Chelsea side.
