Phils win sixth straight, return to .500 and Playoff Contenders!
- Updated: September 12, 2012
It has been one crazy roller coaster ride, and it didn’t even go through the big loop yet!
But the Phillies are .500 for the first time since June 4 following Tuesday’s 9-7 victory over the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park. The Phils, who have won six consecutive games, are 71-71 as they make an improbable push for a National League Wild Card with 20 games to play.
Is a Wild Card really possible? Sure.
Is it likely? Well, Baseball Prospectus’ postseason odds report calculated the Phillies with a 0.6 percent chance entering Tuesday. So they need a few things to go their way the rest of the season. The Phillies are 14-4 since Aug. 22, which is the best mark in baseball. They certainly need to maintain that torrid pace, but they also need the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers to lose.
