Philadelphia PA: There has been a lot of speculation if the Philadelphia Phillies are going to make any more moves to continue the rebuild process. On Wednesday, there was a report by FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal that said the following
The Chase Utley era in Philadelphia came to a end at 10:46 p.m. after the Phillies 7-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays which saw the Phillies sending Chase Utley & $4M in cash to the Los Angeles Dodgers for INF/OF Darnell Sweeney and RHP John Richy. Chase Utley did not play in the Phillies win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday. In 73 games this season, Utley is batting .217 with 5 home runs with 30 RBI in 282 plate appearances. The players that the Phillies got back in the trade are as follows
Darnell Sweeney: a 24-year-old switch hitter, batted .271 with 30 doubles, nine home runs and 49 RBI in 116 games with Triple-A Oklahoma this season.
John Richy went 10-5 and posted a 4.20 ERA in 22 games (18 starts) at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Phillies drafted Chase Utley with the 15th pick in the 2000 MLB Draft out of UCLA, made his MLB debut on April 4, 2003 the final year of Veterans Stadium, Utley made his 1st MLB Start which was on April 24, 2003 also at Veterans Stadium & this was the game where Utley would hit his first career home run which turned out to be a Grand Slam. Utley would hit into a double play in the final at-bat in the history of Veterans Stadium. Would make his first all-star team in 2006 in Pittsburgh. Chase Utley made his first postseason appearance which was Game 1 of the 2007 National League Division Series against Colorado at Citizens Bank Park. Phillies would make the world series in 2008 which saw the Phillies win first World Series since 1980 and second in franchise history. During the World Series parade, Utley would drop a quote that would live in Philadelphia sports lore “World [expletive] Champions.”. The Phillies would make it back to the World Series in 2009 and Utley would MR October Reggie Jackson for most home runs hit in one World Series with 5 and the Yankees would defeat the Phillies in 6 games. Chase Utley opened the 2013 season by hitting his 200th career home run off of Braves starter Tim Hudson. On May 25, 2014 at Citizens Bank Park, Chase Utley would strikeout to give Dodgers pitcher John Beckett a No Hitter.
