Phillies Offered Hamilton $80 Million For 3 Years

Anthony Gargano Says, Per Source, Phils Offered Hamilton $80 Million For 3 Years

Philadelphia’s addition of Michael Young from the Texas Rangers increased the possibility the Phillies would be a factor if free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton adjusts to the market.

With the Rangers picking up a hunk of Young’s salary, the Phillies will pay him only $6 million this season. That is considerably below the market rate for a front-line third baseman with All-Star credentials.

The Phillies also freed up about $24 million in salary by dealing away outfielders Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino in the second half of this season.
