- Updated: August 7, 2014
In a waiver wire trade, the Phillies sent starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez to the Los Angeles Dodgers today for two players to be named. The Phillies will select to lower level minor league players from a list mutually agreed upon by the two teams.
This is the first trade made by the Phillies this season, with the non-waiver trade deadline passing last week. Hernandez was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers, giving the Phillies the right to either pull him back, let him walk, or work out a trade with the claiming team.
The Dodgers will pay the remaining $1.5 million of Hernandez’s one year, $4.5 million contract.
In 23 starts in red pinstripes, Hernandez posted a 3.87 earned run average with a record of 6-8. Hernandez recently put together a string of quality starts that helped keep the Phillies in games.
