Philadelphia Soul Defeat San Jose in Home Finale

Philadelphia PA: On Sunday July 20 from Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Soul played in a”must win” to keep their playoff chances alive as they hosted the San Jose SaberCats. This was a rematch from their week 2 encounter back on March 23 when San Jose dominated the soul by winning 70-33. The Soul came into the game off their bye week and off a win over Orlando on July 7, while San Jose comes into game off a win over Tampa Bay.
The Soul won the toss and deferred to 2nd half as San Jose would begin the game with the ball. San Jose would get stopped on downs on the opening drive of the game. Soul player Jerome Williams would get ejected for entire 1st half for having 2 off side penalties. San Jose would open the scoring when Odie Armstrong runs it for the early 6-0 lead. The Soul would respond when Derrick Ross would score the touchdown for the 7-6 lead, Markee White would make it 14-6 soul. The play of the game came from Derrick Ross as he would score a 32 yard touchdown run by going through several San Jose Players to make it 21-6 Soul. San Jose would add late touchdown to cut the lead to 21-13 at halftime.
San Jose would score to cut the lead to 1 at 21-20 early in the 3rd quarter. Derrick Ross big day continued with his 3rd touchdown of the game to get the lead back to 28-20. The Soul would add 2 more touchdowns in the 4th quarter as the Soul hold on for a 42-20 win in front of a crowd of 10,471. With the win, The Soul keep their playoff chances alive with record of 9-8 as they head into the final week of the regular season with a battle with instate rival Pittsburgh on Saturday in Pittsburgh (5PM on Comcast Network). The Soul need a Loss by Tampa Bay tomorrow (8:30PM on ESPN2) to get into the playoffs. With the loss, San Jose falls to 12-5 and they end their season on the road against Iowa, San Jose plays Spokane in the playoffs.
