- Updated: June 19, 2012
Today the Philadelphia Eagles signed their first round draft selection defensive tackle Fletcher Cox to a four year contract. The Eagles now have signed all 9 of their 2012 draft picks before the start of Training Camp begins officially at Lehigh University on July 22nd.
The new Collective Bargaining Agreement allows first round draft picks to be signed by NFL teams more efficiently which is a primary reason why this deal was finalized. Cox stated “You don’t want to miss a few days of training camp because if you miss three days, then you’re three days behind and somebody else is ahead of you.”
The Missippi State Defensive tackle had a total of 56 tackles, 14.5 tackles for losses and 5 sacks last season for the Bulldogs. The Eagles roster is now comprised of the maximum of 90 players. Fletcher Cox looks forward to the new challenge that awaits him to compete for a starting role on the Eagles fierce pass rushing defensive line. Cox stated “My mindset is going in and just doing what I’m coached to do and that’s play hard and be relentless.”
