Penn Women’s Basketball defeats UMBC

Philadelphia PA: On Monday December 29 from the Cathedral of College Basketball The Palestra for some Women’s Basketball action as Penn Quakers took on UMBC Retrievers. Penn comes into game off a loss to crosstown rivals Drexel on December 20 while UMBC enters game off a win over UMES.
Penn won the tip to start the game, Penn would open the scoring with a 3 pointer by Renee Bush, UMBC would finally get on the board about 2 minutes latter from basket by Capree Garner. Penn would open up a lead by 10 and then UMBC would make their run to cut the lead down to 4 as Penn would take a 30-26 lead into halftime. Sydney Stipanovich lead Penn in 1st half with 17 points while Liz McNaughton lead UMBC with 10 points in 1st half.
Penn got ball to start the 2nd half, and would add to the lead and it was lead by Stipanovich who would just take over. Penn would get the lead up to 51-38 as Stipanovich and Bonenberger would get the lead up big. UMBC would make a series of runs to get the lead down to single digits, Penn Sydney Stipanovich and Kara Bonenberger did most of the damage in the 2nd half, Penn hit a couple big shots late including a bank 3 pointer by Renee Bush, the game came down to foul shots and Penn would make theirs while UMBC could not make their as Penn would hold on for a 69-63 win.

Capree Garner: 19 points, 4 rebounds
Liz McNaughton: 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4-5 from 3 PT Range
