Penn State Defeats Vermont in Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff

Philadelphia PA: College Hockey made its return to Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia on January 31 as the Penn State Nitty Lions took on the 14th Ranked Vermont Catamounts in the third annual Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff. This is the 3rd time that Penn State & Vermont will play each other in this game, Penn State took the game in 2013, Vermont took it in 2014. Penn State enters game following a tie against Northern Michigan on January 24, Vermont enters game with a loss to Boston University also on January 24
Vermont won the opening faceoff to start the game, a lot of good scoring opportunities by both teams, and there was a lot of great saves by both goalies, it was a scoreless 1st period. Midway through 2nd Period, Vermont put good pressure on Penn State & there was a battle in front of the Penn State Goal, the puck went in and referee blew his whistle to end the play, the looked it over and ruled NO GOAL. Vermont opened the Scoring with 7 minutes left in the 2nd period by Brady Shaw for the 1-0 lead. Vermont add another goal by Mario Puskarich for 2-0 lead, Penn State Answered back with goal by Casey Bailey to cut the Lead to 2-1 through 2 periods. Penn State tied game at 2 four minutes into the 3rd period on goal by Scott Conway. Penn State took lead on Lead by David Thompson, then Penn State adds empty net goal to ice the game as Penn State defeats Vermont 4-2 infront of a Crowd of 11,674.
