Penn Football defeats Villanova for 1st time since 1911

Villanova PA: The bright lights of Thursday night primetime took center stage at Villanova Stadium on the campus of Villanova University as Villanova Wildcats on their big 5 rival Penn Quakers. Villanova entered the game with a record of 2-1 and off a win over Delaware on September 19 while Penn comes into game with a 0-1 record and off a Lehigh also on September 19. This game was moved from Saturday to Thursday as the arrival of Pope Francis to Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families. Last time Villanova played a Thursday night game was 2005.
Penn won the toss & elected to receive to start the game, Penn would score the games first points as QB Alex Torgersen finds WR Justin Watson from 12 yards out for the early 7-0 lead, Penn would take control of the 1st quarter, Villanova would only have 1 drive in the quarter as Penn would have 3 of them, Villanova would have 25 yards in the 1st QTR, Penn would have 125 yards. Penn would miss a 34 yard field goal to start the 2nd quarter. Penn would make it 14-0 when Justin Watson catches his 2nd touchdown of the 1st half, this time from 33 yards out. Penn would lead 14-0 at halftime.
Villanova got the ball to start the 2nd half and they could not get anything down as they would go 3 and out, Penn would also go 3 and out on their 1st drive of the 2nd half. Penn would just out play Villanova the entire game, on this dive for Penn they would drive down and hit a 41 yard field goal for a 17-0 lead with 4:14 left in the 3rd. Villanova would finally get something going which saw a couple big plays from running back Gary Underwood and Villanova would score a touchdown on a 1 yard run by Gary Underwood which would cut the lead to 10 at 17-7. Villanova would get the ball back and drive ball down to Penn 19 yard line and they fumble it and Penn picks it up and runs it back for a 90 yard touchdown which would ice the game, the 90 yard return by Penn was the longest return against Villanova. Villanova would score a late touchdown by Jarrett McClenton from 8 yards out, Villanova would miss the extra point and Penn would lead 24-13. Penn would run the clock out and history would be made as Penn defeats Villanova 24-13 and this would be Penn first win against Villanova since 1911.
