North Carolina and Maryland Make Men’s Lacrosse Title Game

Philadelphia PA: The four best teams in college lacrosse came to Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia during Memoral day weekend for the 2016 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Final Four, this year it featured North Carolina, Maryland, Brown, Loyola MD. The Match ups were North Carolia vs Loyola MD and Maryland vs Brown. The games were broadcasted nationally on ESPN2 with Eamon McAnaney, Quint Kessenich and Paul Carcaterra.

The first game was Loyola MD Grey Hounds took on the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Tar Heels came out on fire and they would jump all over Loyola by scoring the games first 3 goals and Zach Herreweyers would get Loyola on the board. The Tar Heels would put up a 9 goal first quarter which is the 6th time in the championship history that a team has scored 9 goals in a quarter since 2003, Loyola would try to make a comeback as they would strike early in the 3rd quarter to make it a game but the Tar Heels just continued to make things very hard for the Grey Hounds. The story in the game was North Carolina Chris Cloutier Scoring 9 goals in the game which would set a championship weekend record for individual goals in a game.North Carolina would win this game 18-13 to advance to their first championship game for the first time since 1993.

The second semifinal was top seed Maryland taking on Brown. The Terrapins jumped out to an early lead, Brown would make a run and they would take the lead at 5-4 in 1st quarter as Bailey Tills would have a Sportscenter top 10 play as he scored with a no look backhand shot that went 5 hole. Maryland would take 9-8 lead into halftime, both teams would make some big shots. Terrapins would have a 4 goals lead at 14-10 with 9:33 left and Brown would come all the way back and tie game at 14 with 1:49 left and the game would head to overtime. Maryland would win the game early in Overtime on goal by Colin Heacock that wold send the Terrapins back to the championship game for the 2nd year in row in Philadelphia.

The Championship game is Maryland Terrapins vs North Carolina Tar Heels on Memorial Day Monday at 1PM on ESPN2. If North Carolina wins, it would be the Tar Heels first championship since winning the title back in 1991 on the other hand if Maryland wins, it would be their first championship since 1975.
