Kimble & Newkirk help Hawks Soar Past Lions

Philadelphia PA: We are only 4 days into the 2016-17 season and there have been some interesting results and it continued on Monday night as the Saint Joseph’s Hawks took on Columbia Lions from Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s University. The Hawks enter the game with 1-0 record and off win over Toledo on Saturday while Columbia comes into game against the Hawks also with a 1-0 and off a win over Stony Brook on Friday. Before the game, the Hawks would announce that James Demery would be out a couple weeks with stress fracture on fourth metatarsal in left foot.

Saint Joseph’s won the tip to start the game and would score the games 5 points, jumper by Lamar Kimble & 3 pointer by Shavar Newkirk. Nate Hickman would score 6 points to get Columbia on the board to get within at at 7-6 with 16:47 left in 1st half. The Hawks would take flight and make things very difficult for the lions as the Hawks would grow their lead up to 20 points  with the offensive attack by Charlie Brown, Lamarr Kimble & Shavar Newkirk as the Hawks took a 50-27 lead into halftime.

Columbia got ball to start the 2nd half and try to cut into the lead which they did as they would get it down to 15 at 60-45 at 10:40 left in the 2nd half, The Hawks would answer the run by the Lions and just put the game out of reach. A crowf of 3,543 watched the Saint Joseph’s Hawks soar  to a 85-65 win to start the season 2-0. With the loss, Columbia falls to 1-1 on the season. The Hawks now get ready to play in the Paradise Jam which is held in the US Virgin Islands on Friday and Columbia moves on to play Quinnipiac on Nov 21.
