Houston takes down Temple in Conference Championship

Houston TX: All season long teams battle it out to win a conference championship and that is what took place on Saturday at TDECU Stadium on the campus of University of Houston as the 22nd ranked Temple Owls take on the 19th ranked Houston Cougars in the 1st ever American Athletic Conference Championship game. Temple came into game with record of 10-2 and off a win over UConn on November 29 while Houston enters the game against Temple with a record of 11-1 and off a blowout victory over Navy on November 27. This was history as Temple played Houston in the 1st ever Football game in the American Athletic Conference back in 2013 at Lincoln Financial Field which Houston won that game 22-13. The game was broadcasted nationally on ABC with Sean McDonough, Chris Spielman & Todd McShay calling the action
Houston won the toss & deferred to 2nd half, Temple starts the game with ball and on temple opening drive, PJ walker would have his pass picked off and Houston would make Temple pay as RB Javin Webb would score from 1 yard out for the early 7-0 lead. On the owls next drive, PJ Walker finds WR Robby Anderson down to Houston 11 yard line and then he fumbles it, Cougars recover it, Temple would stop them. Houston would take a 7-0 lead at end of 1st QTR. Halfway through the second quarter, the Cougars would add to the lead as kicker Ty Cummings hits 24 yard field goal for a 10-0 lead. Houston would add to the lead in the quarter as QB Greg Ward Jr would break off a big run for a 47 yard touchdown run for 17-0 and Cougars have everything going for them. Temple finally gets something going late in the first half as the Owls would drive down and make a 40 yard field goal by Austin Jones to cut the lead to 17-3. Houston would take a 17-3 lead into halftime.
Houston starts 2nd half with ball, get one first down before punting it away. Temple would hit a big play to WR Robby Anderson for 41 yards, then Houston defense would stop the Owls on 4th down on the Cougars 29. Cougars would add to the lead on a 10 yard touchdown run by Greg Ward Jr to make it 24-3 with 6:40 left in the 3rd quarter, following the touchdown, Ward would stay down on the field Injured. Temple would show a lot of fight and get back into the game as PJ Walker would team the Owls down the field and he would find Robby Anderson from 13 yards to cut the Cougars lead to 24-10 with 2:26 left in 3rd quarter, the touchdown drive went 10 plays in75 yards in 4:14. Temple would get the ball back and made a 4th down to Jahad Thomas to keep the drive going and the drive would lead to a 39 yard field goal by Austin Joes to cut the lead to 24-13 with 11:29 left in the 4th quarter. The defense of the Owls would make 2 big drive stopping plays to get the ball back, Owls would have a 4th down and temple could not pick it up as Houston would defeat Temple 24-13 in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship in front of a crowd of 35,721. Temple will find out what bowl game they will be going to tomorrow while Houston will get one of the New Year 6 Bowl game with the victory.

RB Brandon Wilson: 11 rush attempts for 70 yards
WR Chance Allen: 3 catches for 35 yards
