Houston Beats Temple in 1st Game in American Athletic Conference

(Philadelphia PA) On Saturday September 7 from Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia, The Temple Owls Hosted the Houston Cougars in their home opener. Temple comes into game off a 28-6 loss to Notre Dame; Houston comes in off a 62-13 win over Southern. This is the 1st conference game in the new American Athletic Conference. The game was broadcasted regionally on ESPN Regional (on 6ABC in Philly) with Eamon McAnaney, Anthony Becht calling the action with Brooke Weisbrod on the sidelines, it was also broadcasted on TalkRadio 1210 WPHT with Harry Donahue & Paul Palmer calling the action.
Temple wins the toss & elects to receive to start the game, On Temple 1st play of game, QB Connor Reilly has his pass intercepted. , on Houston 1st drive they go down to Temple red zone & they miss a 35 yd field goal, the game 1st points came from Houston Kicker Richie Leone for 40 yard FG for an early 3-0 lead, Temple gets on board when Kenny Harper runs it in from 1 yard out for a 6-3 lead, at end of 1st QTR, Temple leads 6-3. Houston would tie the game at 6 early in 2nd quarter, later on in 2nd QTR, Houston would take a 9-6 lead with another field goal, Temple would get ball late in 2nd QTR and they would score touchdown by Kenny Harper, Temple would take a 13-9 lead at Halftime.

Houston Starts 2nd Half with ball and they would drive down the field and make a 24 YD Field goal to cut the Temple Owls lead to 13-12, Houston would get the ball back again and then would get close to end zone but the Temple defense would take over and hold them top another field goal & Houston would take a 15-13 lead in the 3rd qtr. the Owls & Cougars would each move the ball down the field & the defense would take over. Halfway through the 4th quarter, the owls were driving and Connor Reilly would get knocked around hard a couple of times and would have to leave the game for a couple of plays and Juice Granger would come in and throw 1 pass that he over threw his receiver, the Houston offence finally got into the end zone with under 2 minutes left in 4th quarter when Ryan Jackson would take it in from 10 yards out and that would ice the game as Houston would hold on to beat Temple 22-13. Temple falls to 0-2 while Houston goes to 2-0, Temple will play Fordham at home next week & Houston will host Rice next week.
