High Time to Pick Up Mikel Leshoure
- Updated: September 28, 2012
Mikel Leshoure of the Lions ran for 100 yards in his debut last week against the Titans. Leshoure also picked up a TD and 4 receptions for an additional 34 yards. Not bad for an NFL debut for a guy who is now in his second season after being a second round draft pick out of Illinois.
Leshoure missed the first two games of the season after serving a suspension for an off-season arrest for a second marijuana possession charge. That comes after missing all of the 2011 season with an Achilles tendon tear.
So, it may come as no surprise that Leshoure, a risky pick based on past injuries and behaviors, is only on an active roster in less than 40% of ESPN fantasy football leagues. That means Leshoure is likely available in your league.
Leshoure actually could have picked up more yardage in last weekends’ games, but the Lions decided to sit him in the overtime period. There’s nothing to worry about as Leshoure remains healthy. The Lions confirmed that he was justing sitting due to being gassed after his 30+ touches during the contest.
That’s good news for Leshoure, because he’s been sitting way too much these past two years.
Fantasy Football Projection: Mikel Leshoure — Leshoure plays in a traditionally pass-happy Lions offense that features Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Leshoure probably won’t get 30 touches in many future games, but he will be the primary ball carrier for the Lions and can be an 800 yard, 7 touchdown, guy for the 14 games he’s eligible for in the 2012 campaign.
