Hawks Soar over Quakers at Palestra

Philadelphia PA: Big 5 basketball took center stage at the Cathedral of College Basketball, The Palestra on the campus of University of Pennsylvania on Saturday Night as the Saint Joseph’s hawks took on Penn Quakers. Siant Joseph’s entered the game with (8-9, 0-2 in Big 5) and off a loss to Umass on January 18 while Penn come sinton Big 5 encounter with (6-8, 0-2 in Big 5) and off a Loss to Brown on January 14. This was a Saint Joseph’s Home game as both Penn & Saint Joseph’s agreed to play this game at the Palestra, regardless of who the home team is.
Saint Joseph’s won the tip to start the game and they would open the scoring on basket by Chris Clover for early 2-0 lead, Penn got on the board with 3 pointer by Matt Howard. Both teams would trade baskets and play tight defense. The Hawks would grown the lead to 15 points at 31-16 with 5:28 left, Penn would slowley cut into the lead as the Hawks would take a 35-31 lead into halftime.
Penn got ball to start the 2nd half and they would retake the lead on basket by Matt Howard which made it 36-35. The Hawks would answer the run by the Quakers and they would just take full control of the game as the Quakers did not have an answer. A Sold out crowd of 8,590 saw the Saint Joseph’s Hawks come into the Palestra and take down the Quakers 78-71. This was the Hawks first win since January 7. With the win, the Hawks Now go to (9-9, 1-2 in Big 5) and now go back to A10 Play against St Bonaventure on January 24 while Penn falls to (6-9, 0-3 in Big 5) and they stay in Big 5 play against LaSalle on January 25.
