Flyers hire North Dakota's Hakstol as head coach (AFP)

Dave Hakstol, who spent the past 11 seasons coaching at the University of North Dakota, has been named head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, the NHL club announced. Hakstol compiled a record of 289-143-43 with a .654 winning percentage in 475 games and his programme sent almost two dozen players to the NHL including Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. “Dave brings a wealth of head coaching experience and success to the Philadelphia Flyers organization,” Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said on Monday.
