Drexel Beats Florida to advance to WNIT Championship Game

Philadelphia, PA  -On Wednesday April 3rd from the Daskalakis Athletic Center on the campus of Drexel University, the Drexel Dragons took on the Florida Gators in the semifinals of the Women’s National Invitational Tournamant (WNIT). Drexel came into the game off a win over Auburn in the 3rd Round of the NIT on March 30th.  Florida  came into the game off a win over James Madison in the 3rd round of  the NIT on march 30th. Whoever won this game will have a date with either Kansas State or Utah in the Women’s National Invitational Tournamant Championship Game on April 6th.

Florida started the game with the ball and the first points of game went to Florida’s Jennifer George for two points.  Drexel’s first points of the game came from Taylor Wootton to tie the game at two. Drexel would open up an 11 point lead halfway through the first half and Florida would keep the game close, however, Drexel took a 34-28 lead into halftime.

First half stats:

The leading scorer for Florida in the first half was Sydney Moss with 16 points. For Drexel, it was Hollie Mershon with 12 points.

Florida started with the ball to begin the second half and would increase their lead up to 16 points, Florida would try to keep the game close, but it was not enough as the Drexel Dragons would hold on for a 67-57 Win to advance to the WNIT championship.

after the game was over, it was announced that Drexel would host the WNIT Championship game against Utah. The game will be broadcasted nationally on the CBS Sports Network at 3 p.m. ET.

Final Stats:

Florida: Leading Scorer  was Sydney Moss with 20 points, 10 rebounds.
Drexel: Leading Scorer was Hollie Mershon with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 6-7 from foul line, 2-5 from 3 ptr, Taylor Wootton finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds.
