Devils Beat Flyers 2-1 in Preseason

Philadelphia PA- On Tuesday September 24 from Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Flyers took on the New Jersey Devils in their Preseason home finale. This game marked the return of Flyers Capitan Claude Giroux After a mid-August golf accident in which he tore tendons in his right hand. The game was broadcasted nationally on NHL Network, locally on The Comcast Network with Jim Jackson, Keith Jones & Steve Coates.
The Devils came out firing early in the 1st period which included 8 straight shots on goal before one of then goes in by Devils by Marek Zidlicky by dancing around Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson at 6:37 of the first period. Flyers would attempt to get the puck by Devils goalie Cory Schneider who has not allowed a goal through the entire preseason. halfway through the 2nd Period, Flyers Jake Voracek was hooked by Devils defenseman Bryce Salvador on a breakaway, and his lower back collided with the post& was rewarded a penalty shot & he would miss the net has he went with the backhand shot & after that, did not return to the game with a upper body injury. Late in 3rd period, the Devils would add what would be the game winning goal by Mike Sislo at 7:34 of 3rd period. The Flyers finally get on the board with 2 minutes left in 3rd period when Kimmo Timonen scores from the point on the Power play, that was Cory Schneider 1st goal he allowed all preseason. Claude Giroux & Vinny Lecavalier got the assists on Timonen goal. It would not be enough as the Devils hold on to a 2-1 win.
Giroux played 22:04 minutes, had a game high of 9 shots, with 2 of them on goal, & won 9 of 11 face-offs . Giroux said about playing & how his right hand felt “As the game went on, it felt better,”
The Next time the Flyers play at the Wells Fargo Center, it would be their Home Opener on Wednesday October 2 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs at 7:30 PM
