Denver defeats Maryland for 1st National Championship

Philadelphia PA:  After going through an long season which includes postseason play, the 2 best teams remain to battle it out for the national championship as Maryland Terrapins took on the Denver Pioneers on Monday at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia. Maryland got to the title game by defeating John Hopkins in the semifinals while Denver made the finals by taking down Notre Dame in overtime in the semifinals. The game was broadcasted nationally on ESPN2 & on Westwood one

Maryland won the draw to start the game and Denver would score the games first 2 goals by Wesley Berg for the early 2-0, Maryland would answer back on goal from Colin Heacock. Denver Wesley Berg would score the hat trick goal to make it 3-1 in the 1st quarter. Maryland would attempt to get back in the game, Denver would take a 5-3 lead into halftime.

Denver got ball to start the 2nd half and continue where they left off in the 2nd half, Wesley Berg would score 2 more goals to give him 5 goals on the game, Maryland Matt Rambo would not let Maryland go down without a fight, he scored to cut the lead to 4 at 8-4 in the 3rd quarter. Denver would add 2 empty net goals to make oit 10-4, Maryland Jay Carlson adds one for Maryland but it would not be enough as Denver would defeat Maryland 10-5 to win the schools 1st ever National championship in front of a crowd of 24,215.
