DeAndre Bembry 27pts leads Hawks to win over Billikens

Philadelphia PA: A big game in the Atlantic 10 conference took place on Sunday afternoon from Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s University as the Saint Joseph’s Hawks took on the Saint Louis Billikens. Saint Joseph’s enters game with a (23-5, 12-3 in A-10) record and off a win over UMass on February 24 while Saint Louis comes into matchup against the Hawks with a (10-17-5-10 in A-10) and off a overtime loss to Dayton on February 23. This was a big game for the Hawks is they want to continue their push to make the NCAA tournament.

Saint Louis won the tip to start the game and the games first points came from Saint Louis Mike Crawford from 3pt range for the early 3-0 lead then the Hawks would get on the board with basket from Shavar Newkirk for 3-2 lead. The Billikens would open up a 12-9 lead before the Hawks rallied back to take the lead on 2 foul shots by Pierfrancesco Oliva for a 14-12 lead with 12:57 left. the Hawks would open up a 20-14 lead, then Saint Louis would retake the lead at 25-24 on basket by Mike Crawford with 6:19 left. Late in the 1st half both teams would exchange basket as the Hawks would take a 35-32 lead into halftime.

Saint Joseph’s got ball to start the 2nd half and they would increase their lead to 9 at 45-36, then the Billikens would go on a run to tie the game at 47 on 3 pointer by Jermaine Bishop with 12:46 left in 2nd half. There would be 3 separate times where Saint Louis would try to take the lead but they could not do it. The Hawks would take control and DeAndre Bembry would have 2 highlight reel dunks that blew the roof off at Hagan Arena as the Hawks would roll to a 77-63 win. With the win, the Hawks go to (24-5,13-3 in A-10), while Saint Louis falls to (10-18, 5-11 in A-10).

Saint Joseph’s is currently tied for  1st place in Atlantic 10 with VCU who beat the Hawks earlier in the season. If VCU loses 1 of their next 2 games, then Saint Joseph’s would be the top seed in the Atlantic 10 tournament.
