DC Current defeat Vancouver in MLU Championship Game

Chester PA: On Saturday July 19 from PPL Park in Chester PA, the Championship game in ultimate frisbee took place as DC Current took on Vancouver Nighthawks. This is the 2nd time at the Championship game is being held in Philadelphia, last year it was held at Franklin Field on the campus of University of Pennsylvania. DC Current made the Title game by defeating Boston in the Eastern Conference title game while Vancouver booked their trip to Philadelphia by beating Portland in the Western Conference title game.

Rules of game

Each team will field 7 players at a time and the game will be overseen by at least 5 referees. Fouls will either be yardage based or spot fouls depending on type. Travels will be turnovers and aggressive defensive strategies will be encouraged with a more basketball-like understanding of double-teams and marking rules. Games will be timed and risky strategy will be rewarded by the timeout rules. There are  four 10 Minute Quarters, Each time they score it is worth 1 point, you can not advance the Frisbee after you catch it.

Vancouver starts the game, the games first points came from DC Current David Boylan-Kolchin, Vancouver got on the board when Gagandeep Chatha scored. DC Current took a 8-2 lead at the end of 1st Quarter. DC Continued to put the pressure on Vancouver and took a 13-4 lead into halftime. Vancouver would take over in the 3rd quarter as they put up 9 points to get back into the game while DC put up 4 points and DC held a 17-13 lead going into the 4th quarter. Vancouver would make several attempts to tie the game but they would come up short as the DC Current Hold on for a 23-17 win for the 2014 Major League Ultimate. The MVP of the game was DC Current Markham Shofner.
