Dan Baker Interview not Being Eagles PA Announcer

When you attend games in Philadelphia, it has that certain feel for something special that will happen in particular at Philadelphia Eagles games, for over 29 years Dan Baker has been the PA Announcer and on Wednesday May 8, the Eagles notified Baker that he will not be back for a 30th season with the Eagles. In a statement by Eagles team president Don Smolenski “The Eagles have decided to make a change in the role and told (Dan) Baker about the new direction last week, Dan is the ultimate professional and even though he was disappointed with the direction we are heading, he was accepting of our decision to make the change, We are very appreciative of his dedication and service. He never missed a single game.” As the game day experience continues to evolve with expanded audio and visual enhancements, the game-telling experience is no longer the responsibility of a single person t is a true multi-media experience” The Eagles will use a outside agency as the look for a new PA announcer. Dan will remain the PA Announcer for the Phillies which he has been for 42 years.

Dan Baker would release at Statement saying “I want to thank Mr. Lurie, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the fans for the privilege of announcing 29 great years of Eagles football, It has truly been an honor.”

I spoke to Dan Baker  about not being the Eagles PA Announcer this season , Here is my Interview:

1. When were you notified by the Eagles about their decision to go another direction
Baker: “Eagles President Don Smolenski called me last Wednesday evening and asked if we could meet Thursday afternoon, May 1st. It was at that meeting Don informed me of the Eagles decision

2. What was your most Memorable game as Eagles PA Announcer
Baker: “Announcing the Eagles victory over Atlanta in the 2004 NFC Championship Game”

3. When you left Lincoln Financial Field in January after the Playoff Loss to Saints, did you think that was your Last Game as Eagles PA Announcer
Baker: “There was no hint of any dissatisfaction so I had no idea the Saints playoff game in January would be my last”

4. Anything you want to say to the Eagles Fans
Baker: “The fans and I are on the same page. They love the Eagles and so do I. These are great fans, they really know their football and are so passionate. I’d like to think I share these traits also. I’m so grateful for their support. It was a joy to provide them game information quickly, accurately, and enthusiastically. The reason I was able to do this so well is because I was assisted by two great spotters, my brother Rick for the first 14 years and my son Darren for the last 15 years. They were remarkable”

5. Would you be the PA Announcer if Lincoln Financial Field were to host a Super Bowl
Baker: “It’s doubtful I’d announce a Super Bowl at Lincoln Financial Field. I believe the Eagles want to make a clean break from me for whatever reason. I expect to still announce the ARMY-NAVY football game at Lincoln Financial Field when Philadelphia hosts it”

6. What was your Initial reaction when the Eagles said they were making changes to the In game Experience
Baker: “The Eagles are very innovative with their in stadium presentation. It doesn’t surprise me that they continue to make changes with it. It was a complete surprise that they didn’t want me to be part of this new experience”

The Eagles will honor Dan Baker before the Eagles Home Opener vs. Jacksonville Jaguars on September 7
